“Tribeca’s Greenwich Hotel, a hip boutique property co-owned by Robert de Niro, may not be the first place that comes to mind when thinking about wellness, yet its intimate, Japanese-inspired spa has been a New York standout for well over a decade. At the center of Shibui Spa sits the roof of a 250-year-old wooden and bamboo farmhouse, imported from Japan, and beneath it, a swimming pool and lounge aglow with lanterns, a shiatsu room with a large tub, and a wet room. As transporting as Shibui Spa’s setting is, however, the real journey begins in the treatment room. The spa’s signature massage, the Drunken Lotus, uses customized strokes and hot sake-soaked towels to release tension and reinvigorate muscles, and a series of Onsen bathing rituals pair curated soaks with various massage techniques to support overall health and wellbeing. The spa is also home to a variety of innovative facials, including one which utilizes the products and methods of Augustinus Bader and others that feature Natura Bisse skincare.” – Gabby Shacknai
